Origami is an art that is centuries old, but it has proliferated over the past fifty years. This course will go into the basics of paper folding, teaching some general techniques to help students grasp the intuitions behind origami. By the end, students will have folded many different models and should be able to continue folding beyond this course.
Origami: Stars & Modulars
(FULL) Section 1: Grades 5-8, Mon, Wed: 5PM-5:45PM EDT Prerequisites: Has access to a large quantity of paper (cannot be cardstock, construction, or manila paper)
Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding. Modulars are origami models made with multiple paper units and are assembled to create larger, more complex structures. The appearance of modulars can be quite daunting, but often the units are fairly simple to fold. This course will teach you how to fold multiple origami modulars that are generally spherical in shape, many of which feature star-like designs.
Introduction to Painting
Section 1: Grades 3-7, Tues, Thurs: 6PM-6:45PM EDT Prerequisites: Acrylic paint(at least the primary colors, white and black), paint brushes (minimum of one), paper or a canvas, and a book or something to keep under it.
This class will be a fun and engaging course where we will be painting one piece of art using acrylic paint per week! This is an intro to art class and will not need any necessary background in art or painting. The students will be given step-by-step instruction while painting, and will be given interesting background information on the art form, laws of art, as well as famous artists.
Introduction to Photography
(FULL) Section 1: Grades 6-8, Tues, Thurs: 5:45PM-6:15PM EDT Prerequisites: Access to any digital camera (phone, DSLR, etc), Lightroom Mobile (free download on the App Store & Play Store)
Introduction to Photography is a course that allows students to grow their passion for the art of photography. Students will learn how to utilize design elements such as composition and lighting to create compelling photos. Along with the technical aspects, students will gain knowledge in social aspects of the art such as how to work with models and how to start a photography business. If you love photography or want to advance in your photography journey, this is the class for you!
